Mental Health Promotion Community of Practice

The New Brunswick Anti-Tobacco Coalition is a member of the Mental Health Promotion Community of Practice (CoP) in order to bring attention to the link between tobacco use and mental health and be informed of the latest research and resources available on the topic.

The Mental Health Promotion Community of Practice brings together those interested in or working on mental health promotion in New Brunswick. Its mission is to build capacity for mental health promotion among its membership to advance its vision of creating supportive environments for positive mental health in New Brunswick. The CoP has the following three goals:

  • to create a collective understanding on how to promote mental health;
  • to share and enhance how mental health promotion is being implemented in various settings;
  • to explore opportunities to collaborate in mental health promotion.

Canadian Mental Health Association – Mental Health Week

May 6-12, 2019 was Mental Health Week, and Canadians plugged in their mental health microphones and got loud about what mental health really is. Mental health: everyone has it! The next Mental Health Week is May 4-10, 2020.

Canadians who report lower self-perceived mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic more likely to report increased use of cannabis, alcohol and tobacco

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed Canadians’ lives in previously unimaginable ways in a very short period of time. Given the disruption and stress it may come as no surprise that the consumption of cannabis, alcohol and tobacco has increased for some. In particular, Canadians who rated their mental health as fair or poor were more likely to report increased use of these substances.

Mental Fitness – New Brunswick Department of Social Development

Mental fitness refers to a state of psychosocial well-being, it means having a positive sense of how we feel, think, and act, which improves our ability to enjoy life. New Brunswick’s Tobacco-Free Living Strategy and Mental Health

The New Brunswick Anti-Tobacco Coalition (NBATC) is pleased to provide a presentation on the relationship between New Brunswick’s Tobacco-Free Living Strategy 2019-2023 and mental health. The NBATC will be providing a series of webinars to present this Strategy to its stakeholders and partners showcasing additions and updates which reflects the current tobacco landscape, pinpoint specific goals and objectives that partners can work on to help achieve the Strategy’s vision of a tobacco and smoke-free province for all, and generate discussions to help participants better understand the Strategy and feel empowered to integrate it into their work plan.

The Wellness Movement

The Wellness Movement is a collective, ongoing effort in New Brunswick to inspire and support the creation of wellness-supporting environments, including tobacco-free and smoke-free homes, schools, workplaces and communities. The Wellness Movement – Determinants of Health Poster

A colorful, bilingual poster presenting the 12 determinants of health adopted as part of New Brunswick’s Wellness Strategy. Offered in 8½” by 14″ format to be printed and used as an educational tool to introduce the influence of the determinants of health on an individual’s wellness, or on a population’s general wellness levels.
