Federal tobacco tax inflation increase of 52 cents per carton to take effect April 1

Effective April 1, 2019, a federal inflation increase of 52.5 cents per carton of 200 cigarettes will take effect and 32.8 cents per 100 grams of roll-your-own tobacco.

Not rounded off, the tax increase is

- 52.48 cents per carton of 200 cigarettes

- 32.798 cents per 100 grams of roll-your-own tobacco

There will be an inventory tax as well of 52.4 cents per carton of 200 cigarettes for inventory as of 12:01am on April 1, 2019.  More information from CRA on the inventory tax can be seen here:

Only the federal government and the Yukon have indexed tobacco tax rates to inflation.  No other province or territory has yet done so.
