Report on Asthma Hospitalizations in Children

A new Canadian Institute for Health Information report indicates that asthma hospitalizations in Canada among those aged 0-19 have decreased by 50% over a decade. As the report notes, smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke are risk factors for asthma exacerbation, especially in children. The decline in smoking during this period and reduced exposure to secondhand smoke would have contributed to the decrease in asthma hospitalizations among those 19 and under.
