There will be a hearing in Ontario Superior Court in Toronto on Thursday Feb. 20 in the tobacco company protection proceedings. At the hearing, the tobacco companies will have a motion to extend the stay period from March 12, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2020. During the stay period all of the tobacco lawsuits against tobacco companies are stayed (suspended) and cannot move forward while tobacco settlement negotiations are under way. These negotiations are happening separately as part of a confidential mediation.
